The Great Leaf Hunt

Memoir Writing Group Meeting
October 3rd at 1 pm at the Luttrell Room in the Effingham Library. Focused on writing about their life story for their family and friends or just for themselves, this new writing group welcomes newcomers and all level of writers. Typically meeting for two hours, participants are encouraged to bring writing that they’ve worked on to share with the group. At each meeting, possible writing prompts are shared. Participants are encouraged to consider various aspects of their life story. The writing prompt or assignment to prepare for the October meeting is to write about “To Be Announced”. Each member may read their writing aloud. During the meeting, participants also have 15-20 minutes to write about another topic that will be drawn from an envelope of prompt ideas. Night Terrors of Effingham Special Price Night
October 5th – 6th from 7:30 – 9:30 pm. Ready to be scared? Prepare yourself for an experience like nothing before in South Central Illinois! Night Terrors of Effingham is 12,000 square feet of horror and fun. Head to Village Square Mall for Night Terrors of Effingham! May be too intense for children under 12 years of age. Teen Book Discussion
October 5th from 4:30 – 6 pm in the teen department of the Effingham Public Library for ages 13-18. Join us in the teen department for a book discussion. Grapevine Bluegrass Festival

October 6th at 7 pm in the Effingham Performance Center. Bearing Down on MS 5K

Effingham Farmers Market

Trick or Trivia
October 7th from 6 – 11:00 pm at V.F.W. post 1769. Come out to the V.F.W post 1769 for a night of team trivia! There will be teachers, staff, parents, area businesses and community members to help make this a great night. Plenty of good food, auction items, trivia and most importantly fun can be expected! Family Force 5
October 8th at 6 pm in the Effingham Performance Center. Family Force 5 has been packing dance floors with their dynamic mix of guitar-driven rock, big dance beats, cool synth lines and witty pop culture references since their inception in 2004. 1872 Courthouse Celebration and Grand Ball
October 14th from 10 am – 10:30 pm at Effingham County Courthouse Museum. The 1872 Courthouse Celebration and Grand Ball at the Effingham County Courthouse Museum features historical presentations, re-enactors, musical concerts and closes with a Grand Ball to end the festivities. Introductory Chess Class

53rd Annual Illinois State Fiddle Contest
October 15th from 1 – 5 pm at Thelma Keller Convention Center. The IOTFA focuses on the preservation of old time fiddle music and passing the tunes and styles of playing down to the younger generation. Fee: $5 a person/free for ages 8 and under. Scout Programs
November 18th at the Ballard Nature Center. Junior Girl Scouts from 9:30 – 11:00 am. We will do activities to help you earn the “Flower Badge.” Brownie Girl Scouts from Noon – 1:30 pm. We will do activities to help you earn the “Outdoor Adventure Badge.” Bear & Wolf Cub Scouts from 2:30 – 4 pm. Girl Scout Fun Day
