Groundhog Day Crafty Snack Drop-In
February 2nd from 2 – 3 pm in the Children’s Programming Room of the Effingham Public Library for all ages. Just a half day of school today! Stop in the Children’s Programming Room to make a groundhog-themed craft that you can eat! Snacks include peanut butter. No Registration Required. VFW Auxiliary Honor Flight Meal
February 2nd from 5 – 6:30 pm at the VFW. The VFW Auxiliary on Veterans Drive will be having a meal to benefit “Honor Flight”. Menu: Pork Loin, dressing, corn, mashed potatoes/gravy, pickled beets, deviled eggs, dessert, coffee/tea/or lemonade for $6.00. Come out and help support “Honor Flight”. Annual Newman Breakfast
February 4th at 7 am – noon in Teutopolis Banquet Hall. Menu will include whole hog sausage, scrambled and fried eggs, pancakes, and hash browns. Also, baked goods and crafts will be available for purchase. Over 80 Newman Centers throughout the state of Illinois offer college students a chance to gather and practice the Catholic faith. All proceeds from the breakfast go to the Newman Fund. Donations of raffle items, crafts, and baked goods would be greatly appreciated. Ice Carving & Live Music
February 4th from 1 – 5 pm at Willow Ridge Vineyards & Winery. On Sunday, February 4th, Willow Ridge will host its annual ice carving event. Olympic ice carver, Aaric Kendall, will create another amazing ice sculpture on site for all to watch and enjoy! The ice carving will take place from 1:00-2:30(ish)pm. Just as the finishing details are being etched onto the carving, Concordia will begin to play and will perform from 2:00-5:00pm. No reservations and no cover charge! The Unloved

Laker Visit Day
February 9th from 9 am – noon in the Luther Student Center at Lake Land College in Mattoon. The event is for potential students who are interested in learning more the college. Parents/guardians and spouses are welcome to come along and attend the Parent and Spouse Session. Representatives from Admissions & Records, Financial Aid & Veteran Services, Counseling Services, Career Services and Student Life will provide information and answer questions. The event includes campus tours and informational sessions by Lake Land College Student Ambassadors. Participants will also meet with faculty members in their academic area of interest to learn more about program offerings at Lake Land. Bible Bingo
February 11th at 3 pm in the Effingham Performance Center. Join the fun and support a great cause with “Bible Bingo.” It’s a Bible-based bingo game complete with Bible trivia, audience interaction and the funniest quiz about the Holy Family you’ve ever seen. Mary Margaret O’Brien will have you laughing so hard, you might forget to watch your bingo cards! Bible Bingo: so much fun you’ll have to confess it! Movie Make and Take – Wonder (PG, 113 minutes)
February 16th at 5:30 pm in the Workman Room of the Effingham Public Library for all ages. Effingham Choose Kind! Join us for a showing of Wonder. Come at 5:30 p.m. to make a Kindness Spinner and briefly discuss the book. Glo Bingo Big Brothers Big Sisters Fundraiser
February 16th from 6 – 10 pm at the Carriage House Event Center in Altamont for ages 18 and older. Glo Bingo Fever is Back! Shake the winter blues off at this fun event! Great for groups to attend together for companies, families and friends (over the age of 18)! Doors open at 6 pm and Bingo Starts at 7 pm. Six String Summit
February 24th at 7 pm in the Effingham Performance Center. Effingham’s premier electric guitarists join up for the 2nd annual “6 String Summit” – A celebration of guitar mastery. Marty Williamson, one of the area’s most notable players, dreamt of bringing together the finest homegrown guitarists to perform on one stage – that dream became reality in 2017. The show is back and bigger than before in 2018! This unique event will feature Marty Williamson, Larry Passalacqua, Jon Clarkson, Mike ‘Mac’ McDevitt, Josh Morrison and Reverend Robert. Adam Burtch, Jeremy Adam, and Kyle Heynen make up a stellar backing band for the evening. New additions to the show include vocals by Matt Poss and John Sawyer on pedal steel guitar. Tickets are $12. Family Science Day
February 24th at 1 pm at the Ballard Nature Center. “Touch Another World” Brian Poelker will make a presentation on meteorites. There will be samples of meteorites and “meteorwrongs” to be touched, along with samples of rocks from impact craters from around the world. Running of the Nerds
February 24th from 7:30 am at the Neoga Jennings Park. This race is a fundraiser for the Neoga High School National Honor Society. The money raised will help support service projects and help pay national dues. Come exercise your body and mind! There is a special brain trivia component along the race course. Signs with different trivia questions and the answers will be placed on the route. At the end of the race you will have an opportunity to fill out and turn in a sheet to see how much you retained from the questions and answers you read along the course. During the awards ceremony the first person’s sheet drawn from the box with ALL the correct answers will win a prize! The race starts at the pavilion at Neoga Jennings Park. (east end of 7th street) Registration will be at the old elementary school building located on 6th street, next to the Park. February 25th from 8 am – 1 pm at the Workman Sports Complex. A charity event for all ages and all abilities! 10 min Swim, 20 min Bike,15 min Run Have you ever wanted to Tri something new? JUST TRI is your chance. Everyone does the same amount of time, so you can go at your own pace. Test your abilities at the three disciplines to experience something new. Come on, you can do it, JUST TRI! Charity’s include Harmony Playground, Relay For Life, and Blessings in a Backpack. Registration forms can be picked up in the lobby at Workman Sports Complex and must be turned in by February 14, 2018.

Family Game Night
February 27th from 6 – 8 pm in the Effingham Public Library for all ages. Join us on the second floor of the library to play some new board games! February 28th at the Ballard Nature Center. Be Part of a Special Exhibit at BNC. Help us celebrate Earth Day by being a part of a unique exhibit to be on display during our Earth Day program!! We think Ballard Nature Center is such a wonderful place, don’t you? Show us what you love about BNC! Did you have an exciting adventure on the trail? Did you see something special or beautiful? Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Illinois
March 3rd from Noon – 2 pm located at Lake Sara Beach Rd, Effingham. 4-H Skating Party
March 4th from 5:30 – 8 pm at the Silver Star Skating Rink. Lit’l Bit Country 4-H Club is once again inviting all 4-H members from Effingham, Coles, Clay, Fayette and Jasper counties to a skating party at the Silver Star Skating Rink in Mattoon. The cost is $4 per skater (payable to Lit’l Bit Country), plus $1 rental for skates or inline skates (or bring your own at no cost). A snack bar is available and there is a play area for smaller kids. Be sure to invite your friends to come join the fun! Red Hot Chilli Pipers
March 24th at 8 pm in the Effingham Performance Center. Bagpipes with attitude. Drums with a Scottish accent. A blazing rock band and show so hot, it carries its own health warning! It’s the Red Hot Chilli Pipers–a nine-piece ensemble consisting of pipers, guitarists, keyboardists and drummers who have been rocking from New York to Beijing and everywhere in between with musicianship of the highest order and a passion for pipes that will leave you breathless.
