STEAM Saturday
January 6th from 1 – 3 pm at Douglas-Hart Nature Center for ages Seven – 12 years old.

STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Participants will engage in building, design, games, crafts, and problem solving in a fun and hands-on environment. $4 for members, $6 for non-members. Without adult chaperone. REGISTRATION REQUIRED! BOY SCOUTS: MAMMAL STUDY
January 9th and 16th from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at Douglas-Hart Nature Center. Complete requirements 1, 2, 4, and 5 during this two-evening program. Scouts will need to complete requirement 3 on their own, before or afterwards. $10 per scout. Without adult chaperone. REGISTRATION REQUIRED! Movie Wednesday: Victoria & Abdul
January 10th from 1 – 4 pm in the Rotary Room B of the Charleston Public Library. Starring Judi Dench as Queen Victoria. Join us for the story of how Queen Victoria strikes up an unlikely friendship with a young Indian clerk named Abdul Karim. Feel free to bring your own snacks! Indianapolis Children’s Museum
January 15th from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum for grades K – 6th. Fly through the sky, go on an archaeological dig, and explore outer space in the Planetarium! We’re heading to the Indianapolis Children’s Museum for a fun and adventurous day! We’ll provide the chaperones and transportation. Please bring money or lunch for yourself. The van will leave the East CHS parking lot (18th St. and Lincoln) at 7:30 am returning at 5:30 pm. The cost is $38 / person. Registration deadline is 2 weeks before the trip! Teen Craftivity
January 16th from 5 – 6 pm at the Charleston Public Library. Middle School and High School students are invited to make a featured Do It Yourself project, then take it home. Astronomy Night
January 16th from 6 – 7 pm at the Charleston Public Library. Telescopes will be set up for participant’s use and guided viewing in an informal question and answer format. This drop-in program is free and open to the public, but children under 13 need to bring an adult. Feel free to bring your own telescope! A library card is not needed to attend. Lego My Library
January 17th from 4:00 pm – 5:15 pm at the Charleston Public Library. If you love Legos, come join us as we build together, take on challenges, and have fun! Builders will have the opportunity to Show and Tell between 5:00 pm and 5:15 pm. Grades K-8, as long as they do not put toys in their mouths. Kids under eight, please bring a grownup to help! Heart in a Book Craft night
January 17th from 6 – 8 pm in the Rotary Room B of the Charleston Public Library. Is your house looking bare now that the Christmas decorations are down? Make and Take
January 20th from 10:30 am – 4 pm in the KidSpace Atrium of the Charleston Public Library. Wintery crafts are cool at the Charleston Carnegie Public Library’s arctic themed Make and Take on Saturday, January 20, from 11:30am – 4:00pm, or while supplies last, in the KidSpace Atrium. Nature Nuts Kids Club
January 26th and February 23rd from 4 – 6 pm at Douglas-Hart Nature Center. Last Friday of every month, 4p.m-6p.m. 2nd Saturday of June, September, and December, 10am-Noon. Started in 2013, the Nature Nuts Kids Club manages an area on the Douglas-Hart Nature Center property. Meetings are dedicated to the conservation and enjoyment of nature. There is a $10 new member fee due at the first meeting. Registration required. Without adult chaperone. Help fill containers, prepare seeds, and plant seeds in our heated greenhouse. Plants grown in the greenhouse are planted at the Nature Center throughout the spring and summer. Refreshments served. MASTER GARDENING WITH KIDS
LEAF SMASHING!!
January 27th from 11 am – noon at Douglas-Hart Nature Center for six – 12 year olds. Fourth Saturday of every month, (April’s class will be part of our Earth Day Festival). Children can work alongside U of I Extension Master Gardeners the fourth Saturday of every month for fun and hands-on gardening fun! Free! Registration appreciated. Without adult chaperone. Children younger than six years of age must be accompanied by an adult. “TOAD-ALLY” FUN VALENTINES
February 3rd from 10 am – noon at Douglas-Hart Nature Center for ages five – 12-year-olds. Animals love Valentine’s Day “beary” much. Create your own animal inspired Valentine’s Day cards for “some bunny”! $3 per member, $5 per non-member. Without adult chaperone. REGISTRATION REQUIRED! Make and Take
February 10th from 10:30 am – 4 pm in the KidSpace Atrium of the Charleston Public Library. FROSTY FAMILY FUN
February 10th from 10 – 11 am at Douglas-Hart Nature Center. Second Saturday of every month, join one of our naturalists for a morning of family fun. Storytime for toddlers, and engaging exploratory centers for all! For older kids check out our class Adventure Art offered on the same Saturday! Free per member, $1 per non-member.
