Star Wars Celebration

Wild Friday Nights
December 8th from 6 – 9 pm at Douglas-Hart Nature Center for ages 7 – 12. Parents drop off your kids for WILD nights at DHNC! Each night is a WILD adventure about wildlife with themed activities, games, and crafts! $3 per member, $5 per non-member. Registration required. Without adult chaperone. Tree Decorating for Winter Wonderland Walk – Volunteer Opportunity
December 8th – 14th at Douglas-Hart Nature Center. The Douglas-Hart Nature Center is going to feature a Winter Wonderland Walk at Winter Fest on Friday, December 15, from 4-7pm. We would love to have a business, family, or team of volunteers sponsor a tree by decorating it for Winter Fest. All decorations will be returned and electricity will be available. Drop-off to Shop
December 9th from 1 – 5 pm at Douglas Hart Nature Center for ages Five – Twelve-year-olds. Parents drop off your child(ren) and go get some last minute shopping done. While they are here, they will create their own gifts to give to someone this holiday season! Breaks for hot cocoa and games are a must during this holiday program! Spirit of the Holidays Decorating Contest – Charleston
December 13th from 6 – 9 pm is when judging period starts. Do you enjoy decorating for the holidays? Enter this contest for a chance to win a prize for the best decorated house in your neighborhood. The City is divided into 4 quadrants with each section having a winner with one overall winner: NW, NE, SW, SE. Hot Line for Santa
December 14th. Have SANTA make a call right to your house! Have your child write a letter to Santa, or fill out a form, and Santa will call YOU on Thursday, December 14th, between the hours of 5 & 6:30 pm! Please include child’s name, address, phone number, birth date, school grade, pet’s name, and a couple of toys requested. PLEASE LIST EACH CHILD SEPARATELY. Forms are available in the Charleston Parks and Recreation office, and online registration is now available! Hotline to SANTA is a FREE event. After School Movie – Polar Express

Chess Program

Sunburst Beauty Pageant
December 17th at 1 pm in the Cross County Mall for ages 4 – up. Overall Queen will receive a Santa Crown, Custom Sash and their $250.00 beauty fee paid to the state finals. You must enter super saver to be eligible. Beauty winner in each age group receives a Christmas Crown, Trophy and $250.00 beauty fee paid to the state finals. Runners-ups, in each age group will receive a CROWN, Trophy, and their beauty entry fee paid to State Finals. Astronomy Night
December 19th at 6 pm at Charleston Carnegie Public Library parking lot, if the sky is clear. Telescopes will be set up for participant’s use and guided viewing in an informal question and answer format. This drop-in program is free and open to the public, but children under 13 need to bring an adult. Feel free to bring your own telescope! A library card is not needed to attend. YOUNG HOLIDAY CHEFS
December 22nd from 10 am – 3 pm at Douglas-Hart Nature Center for Seven – Twelve-year-olds. Kids can contribute to the holiday spread! Join chef Dakota to mix, bake, and decorate reindeer cupcakes. ON DASHER, ON DANCER…
December 22nd from 10 am – Noon at Douglas-Hart Nature Center for ages Five – Seven-year-olds. The toy reindeer are loose at the Nature Center! We must follow the clues and track them around the grounds of the Nature Center before its sleigh time! Each child will receive a plush reindeer to take home. $5 for members, $7 for non-members. CLUE INTO NATURE: WINTER

REINDEER GAMES
December 28th from 10 am – 3 pm at Douglas-Hart Nature Center for ages Seven – Twelve-year-olds. Winter won’t stop us from getting outside and into some leaping and running Reindeer Games. Other challenges include mental strategies and other skill sets. Come dressed for active indoor and outdoor play. Participants should bring a sack lunch. $6 for members, $8 for non-members. Indianapolis Children’s Museum
January 15th from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum for grades K – 6th. Fly through the sky, go on an archaeological dig, and explore outer space in the Planetarium! We’re heading to the Indianapolis Children’s Museum for a fun and adventurous day! We’ll provide the chaperones and transportation. Please bring money or lunch for yourself. The van will leave the East CHS parking lot (18th St. and Lincoln) at 7:30 am returning at 5:30 pm. The cost is $38 / person. Registration deadline is 2 weeks before the trip! Lego My Library
January 17th from 4:00 pm – 5:15 pm at the Charleston Public Library. If you love Legos, come join us as we build together, take on challenges, and have fun! Builders will have the opportunity to Show and Tell between 5:00 pm and 5:15 pm. Grades K-8, as long as they do not put toys in their mouths. Kids under eight, please bring a grownup to help!
